Who are YOUR Biggest Supporters?

I've realized, over the years, that my best supporters are not those who say I am a great writer, or who praises everything I write. They aren't even those who never find anything wrong with my manuscripts. They are the ones who applaud me, but also gently show me the correct or a better way. Good encouragers sandwich a problem area between honest praises.

My biggest supporter is my husband, Norm. He encourages me to write. He cheers me on. He convinces me to push on when I’m having Writer’s Block or feeling down because of low scores from a writing contest judge. He listens to my story plot, repeatedly. He gives technical advice. He is always ready to listen. He encourages me with our checkbook. When possible, I go to conferences, and take writing courses. And, of course, buy writing books.

I couldn't continue without mentioning my sister, Barb. She is an extraordinary encourager. Her instinctual writing insight and knowledge is way beyond me. She is my anchor in the world of writing.

Next, is my writer’s group, 5 Scribes and Their Stories. Brenda, Crystal, Karen, and Nanc’ help me fine-tune my writing, not just the mechanics but content as well. They are very good at sharing warranted confidence to each other as well as corrections.

Because of these wonderful people, I keep my fingers to the keyboard, as I press on toward my day of success.

So, to each of these wonderful people, I say a huge THANK YOU!!

I, too, find my husband to be my greatest supporter. That being said, he is not a very good critic. If I want the unvarnished truth (and good suggestions) about anything I write, I go to my critique group. They know how to encourage, but at the same time know I expect them to be hard on me so that I can learn to write better...so that I improve my skills...so that one day I will produce something that will bless others.

I know what you mean. My husband loves detail, he would love pages of descriptions. 8-) My writer's group has the right balance, they are the best!
